creative director / Nobuhiro Akimoto CA4LA creates hats as high quality designer fashion items that are more than mere accessories. With aspirations of spreading appreciation of fine headwear culture, the brand has chosen to make their mark on the world with innovative items that pursue originality ¦Hats that charm people with their unique vision
CA4LA was born in 1997 with a mission to do away with all previous notions of headwear.
Preferring instead to use the term "head apparel," the brand has since continued to present hats as fashion items.
This unique vision is the brainchild of a design team composed of a dozen members.
Each hat expresses the strong personalities of the designers, and while some pieces are
created entirely from scratch, others are revivals of conventional elements rearranged
in CA4LA style.
Placing heavy importance on Japanese craftsmanship, nearly all of the brand's regular
3,000 item line is manufactured domestically.
However, CA4LA does also incorporate techniques unique to certain parts of the world
like hand knitting, embroidery, and bead work as needed.
"What we place the most importance in our craftsmanship is design and quality. Our
hope is to help spread hat culture while at the same time strengthening our branding
domestically and transmitting our own original designs and Japanese techniques to the
world."
In addition to running 24 boutiques in Japan and one directly-owned location in London, CA4LA has taken part in Paris group exhibitions for the past three years.
The designers assert that this global mindset helps evolve not only their designs but
more functional aspects as well, giving rise to more refined creations.
"We want to spread the appeal of Japanese headwear culture from the base of our ongoing Paris exhibitions. We have also become very aware recently of the power of Asia, so we are also thinking of ways to expand with this in mind."
CA4LA also proactively collaborates with other industries via various brands, artists, and art exhibitions.Always searching for the hidden potential of head apparel, CA4LA continues to bring new tastes to fashion.
